Jennifer Whalen is a dedicated public servant, experienced attorney, and lifelong advocate for fairness and transparency in local government. She is currently serving her second term in the Albany County Legislature, where she represents the residents of District 21. In this role, she has been appointed to key committees including the Board of Elections Task Force and the American Rescue Plan Act Subcommittee on Public Health, in addition to serving on the Mass Transit, Law, and Elder Care Committees.
Jennifer’s legal career spans more than three decades. She is the owner of the Law Firm of Jennifer Whalen, Esq., where she practices real estate, trusts and estates, and landlord-tenant law. She also owns and operates The Whalen Group Distinguished Properties, a real estate brokerage firm that has served Capital Region clients for nearly 20 years.
Her background includes public service at the state level, having worked as an Assistant Attorney General in the New York State Department of Law and as Assistant Counsel for the New York State Racing and Wagering Board. She has handled complex litigation, administrative law, and regulatory matters, experience that uniquely qualifies her for the position of Town Justice.
Jennifer previously served as a Colonie Town Councilwoman, where she championed transparency initiatives such as livestreaming town board meetings and requiring the public posting of job vacancies. She also worked to hold developers more accountable and advocated against tax increases on residents and small businesses.
Beyond her professional roles, Jennifer has been deeply involved in her community. She has served on the boards of To Life, the Greater Loudonville Association, and the Saratoga Performing Arts Center, among others. She is also a proud graduate of Georgetown University and Albany Law School.
A longtime Loudonville resident, Jennifer is the mother of two adult sons and is committed to building a fairer, more accessible, and community-centered court system in the Town of Colonie.
